MIL-STD-3009 was developed by the Department of Defense in February 2001 and superseded MIL-L-85762A. It specifies that NVIS White for crew cockpit and utility lighting. NVIS Green A is grand fathered into the cockpit for certain applications, but not for new applications.

Originally designed for crewmembers in the cabin, such as Air MEDEVAC, or cargo aircraft however, some pilots choose to use this for flight.

Use red when preserving dark adaptation is desirable. Use White when seeing colors is necessary. While the White Light is not as bright as the Xenon lamp on the ML-14, its an LED that will not break if dropped. Also the White LED uses far less power than the Xenon lamp and will burn continuously for 7 days on 2 AA batteries (not included)

NEW & IMPROVED Mike/Lip Lite (SSI-ML18)
3 Filtered NVIS* White LEDs. Compatible with Night Vision
This is the BEST choice for white light devices used while operating under NVIS conditions. Will not filter out colors and allows for all colors to be visible in the cockpit, such as while looking at maps. An LED will last indefinitely. Uses 2 ea. AA batteries (not included).

2 White LEDs & 1 Infrared LED. Compatible with Night Vision
Switch from IR to White at the battery pack. Use White for NV compatible light where dark adaptation is not necessary and where a bright, white light is desired. Mike Lite Dimmer (SSI-ML-DIM)
Works with ALL Mike Lites. Just snap in line between battery pack and Mike Lite. Allows user to increase or decrease light output of any Mike Lite. Optimizes available battery life by allowing user to decrease the Mike Lite output with fresh batteries. As battery life decreases, user slowly increases output to maintain favorite light setting. Also convenient to adjust the light output to compensate for various ambient light conditions as well as different levels of dark adaptation. Also works with Fingerlights if used with the Fingerlight AA Battery Adapter (SSI-FLAA)

MOUNT KIT: Mounts the Mike Lites above to a variety of aviator microphones. Comes with an assortment of clips to attach the Mike Lite to all but the thinnest of mike booms. Of course like all of our products it is guaranteed to work. NOTE: This item not required for military helmets using the standard M-87 or the M-162 Tempest microphones such as the SPH-4 and HGU-56 helmets. All Mike Lites already include necessary hardware to attach to these standard helmets. Other Aviation Products of Interest

Cap Lites are similar to Mike Lites. They are a good source to mount a light onto a "tankers" microphone boom (M138). However, these are great for hunting and fishing as well. Ever tried to tie a fishing lure at night and hold a flashlight? How about walking into or out of that favorite hunting spot in the dark. Very handy having light to see and be seen and have your hands free! Great for mechanics too.
