The compact, lightweight, and portable AN/PAS-13E Thermal Weapon Sight is an all-weather infrared imaging device that cuts through battlefield obscurants to deliver clear surveillance imagery and effective fire control day and night.
Benefits
. Enables combat forces to acquire and engage targets
. Surveillance and fire control under battlefield obscurants, adverse weather, and total darkness
. Command and Control at squad leader level
. Enables recognition ranges up to 2.35 km
. Over 30,000 Thermal Weapon Sights produced and delivered
Proven Technology
The AN/PAS-13E Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) is an advanced infrared weapon sight developed by the U.S. ARMY and Raytheon. The AN/PAS-13E combines rugged, lightweight, modular construction with superior thermal imaging technology to give today’s warfighter the ability to shoot equally well day or night, in smoke or fog, significantly increasing survivability and lethality margins on the 21st century battlefield.
Clear Advantage Over Image Intensifiers
Unlike image intensifiers that require low levels of light to operate effectively, the AN/PAS-13E series of thermal weapon sights require no
visible light to operate and will not shut down or “bloom” when hit by direct light. Equally important, its use cannot be detected, since it operates silently and emits no heat or RF energy.
Operational Features
The AN/PAS-13E series of sights employ advanced technologies for a cost-effective, high-performance, rugged, portable sensor. The high-sensitivity Vanadium Oxide (VOx) Focal Plane Array (FPA) provides long-range target recognition with relatively small imagers.
The compact, light-weight design of the AN/PAS-13E and its 3×
electronic zoom allow it to be used
effectively as both a weapon-mounted sight and as a hand-held imager. It
features electronically programmable reticles for compatibility with a wide
range of weapons. The AN/PAS-13E offers the soldier the option to save power
by using an eye-cup-activated standby mode or to operate the sight with full
power and proper eye relief to engage multiple targets rapidly and accurately
at varying ranges. A multi-function digital I/O port enables remote
operability and provides an NTSC SMPTE 170M video signal for external viewing
or recording. The AN/PAS-13E is powered by standard L91 AA disposable lithium
batteries or rechargeable nickel metal hydride batteries.
