FUNCTIONAL OVERVIEW
The Raytheon Thermal-Eye 4000B(M) offers the ultimate surveillance Night Vision Advantage for public safety and security applications. This rugged Thermal Camera can be easily roof mounted on any vehicle and offers Pan/Tilt viewing, which is easily controlled by a joystick. The Infrared Image is then presented within the safety of the vehicle on a flat panel monitor or managed data terminal. Ideal for mounting on a Police Vehicle or in a fixed mount position to survey a perimeter, the Thermal-Eye 4000B offers users the ability to see through the dark of night when most criminal activity occurs.
The Ultimate Vision Advantage for public safety vehicles has arrived
(Marine Craft version 4000M available)*. Increase officer safety, protect
the community and prevent criminal activity, all with the power of
Raytheon Thermal Imaging.
Designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor environments and
mobile operation, the Raytheon Thermal-Eye 4000B is perfect for use by Public
Safety Departments, Law Enforcement Agencies and Security Professionals.
Featuring Raytheon BST detector technology, the 4000B and 4000M* offer users a clear, crisp image. People, vehicles, boats and other objects easily stand out from their surrounding environment, making it easy to spot potential criminal activity in seconds. The camera can detect human activity up to 1500 feet and is NTSC compatible. The joystick and monitor easily configure into any vehicle interior systems
* The Raytheon Thermal-Eye 4000M is the weatherized marine version of the 4000B. With the same feature set as the 4000B, the Thermal-Eye 4000M is specifically designed to withstand the rigors of marine applications such as search and rescue, pollutant detection and more. Unaffected by light rain, snow or darkness, both the 4000B and 4000M provide a true infrared image without the use of intrusive lighting.
The Pan/Tilt Camera contains the infrared sensor and conversion electronics which sends signal information of the infrared scene to the Electronics Module for further processing. The captured infrared scene, now converted to a real-time black/white video signal, is sent to the Video Monitor or recorder, thru two available output ports on the Electronics Module.
Pan/Tilt command signals are received from the Handcontroller, processed thru the Electronics Module, and sent to control the left/right (pan) or up/down (tilt) positioning of the Pan/Tilt Camera. The Pan/Tilt Camera can be panned continuously a full 360 degrees and tilted down, or up to a full-closed position. HOME and STOW pan positions are built in upon turn-on/turn-off for user convenience and protection of the camera. Current pan position is displayed in the lower left corner of the video in a clock-type format.
DC power is supplied thru the red/black Power Cable to the system at the 2-pin power input on the Electronics Module. The 9-pin Handcontroller Cable, the 25-pin System Cable, and the Video Cables pass signal information between the system components. Fuse protection is also provided.
INFRARED IMAGING AND APPLICATIONS
Visible light, the rainbow of colors that can be sensed by the human eye, is
electromagnetic radiation within a certain frequency band. 'Infra-' means
'below' and 'red' is the lowest frequency in the visible spectrum. Hence,
'infrared' (or 'IR') refers to that range of electromagnetic wavelengths just
below that capable of sight by the human eye. In the IR range, energy from a
scene is not sensed by sight (light) but rather by temperature.
Most objects that you see are not radiating visible light but instead, are reflecting light radiated from another source. Most objects have to be heated to extreme temperatures before they radiate energy in the visible light spectrum. However, energy in the infrared range is being radiated by all objects that are above absolute zero (-459F). Hence, everything has a thermal signature, regardless of light conditions.
The Thermal-Eye 4000(B/M) infrared detecting system distinguishes between very small differences in thermal (infrared) radiation, converts it to electrical signals, amplifies those differences, and reproduces them correspondingly in the visible light (video) range. Powerful advantages are achieved in being able to turn a pitch black night into a black and white TV image of the scene. As your infrared knowledge and experience grows, further applications will develop as you recognize heat clues beyond the naked eye in both day and night conditions.
Some advantages that can be achieved thru application of your Thermal-Eye 4000(B/M) are:
SAFETY
See without being seen. Allows stealth surveillance and approach from within safety of vehicle.
Element of surprise gives better situational control. Reduces opportunity for suspect flight and high speed chases.
Night viewing by sight requires flashlights and searchlights which reveals the pursuer's position, giving advantage to the suspect who wants to stay hidden or surprise attack. Infrared viewing allows safer search capability while the suspect remains 'in the dark'.
In search and rescue, seconds count. Missing or injured persons can be located before lengthy search deployments are required.
Docks, piers, boats, and other obstacles can all present dangerous hazards to marine navigation especially at night or in fog. With the Thermal-Eye 4000(B/M), objects are clearly visible against the uniform temperature of the surrounding water.
Infrared won't 'bloom' or become blinded when hit with bright light such as headlights.
EFFICIENCY
Wide areas can be scanned to establish a perimeter or more quickly locate a missing person or "man-overboard".
An area can be brought under control in less time.
Manpower and equipment resources are saved by reducing the need for foot patrol, K-9, helicopter, and flashlight expenses.
Warmth on a car's engine compartment or tires yields evidence of when it was last driven. A hot car hidden in a cold parking lot stands out. Also, a suspect vehicle that is cold might be considered abandoned, reducing the chance and need to wait for his return.
Buoys and markers are easily "seen", even in pitch black or poor weather, allowing for efficient navigation.
EFFECTIVNESS
While light reflects off of foliage, infrared from a person behind a bush is radiated through the foliage, allowing better detection in both day and night conditions.
Tossed weapons and contraband are thermally evident against cold ground.
Accident investigations yield heat clues in latent tire tracks and skid marks, unseen by sight.
IR reflects off windows, metal structures, smooth concrete walls, and other opaque surfaces providing a mirroring ability around corners in day or night.
Air gaps and surfaces touching each other can give heat clues as to hidden compartments, fluid levels, etc.
Infrared is less prone to scattering and absorption by
smoke, dust, and fog.
