For the infantryman, target ranges vary in ever-changing battlefield conditions. The HHSI provides a solution for engaging threats in CQB situations, then quickly transitioning to a 500m targeting or surveillance situation, and then quickly back to a 25m room clearing exercise. Instant transition is achieved through a quick Switch-to Side (STS) mount that offers a simple, quick disconnect feature to remove the magnifier and base. This durable, night vision compatible system offers wide field optical performance with superior light transmission for visibility in extreme low light conditions.The EXPS3-4 is configured with a new ballistic matching reticle image for the M4 carbine. The battle tested circle/dot reticle will be offered along with a series of 1 MOA aiming dots that are vertically aligned and calibrated specifically for the ballistic drop of .223 caliber ammunition. The reticle provides 4 aiming dots for target distances of 0-300m, 400m, 500m, and 600m. The use of a magnifier is strongly recommended. *Aiming dots may not be distinguishable from each other without magnification.

The EXPS3-4 Model HOLOgraphic Weapon Sights (HWS) are fully compatible with all generation levels of Night Vision intensifier tubes. A special Night Vision (NV) setting allows the operator to immediately drop the brightness intensity of the holographic reticle to eliminate any "halo" effect while viewing through an image intensifier tube. The EXPS3 can be positioned in tandem behind Night Vision intensifiers without any "bloom" of the target area. Now, operators can combine the proven Night Vision technological advantage with a superior close quarters weapon optic to achieve greatly enhanced weapon aiming - in complete darkness. Unlike active IR laser pointer systems, the HWS is a passive system and emits no muzzle-side signature. While in the NV mode, the HWS is not detectable by enemy night vision surveillance systems, providing operators with a stealth means for effective nighttime weapon aiming. All optical surfaces are flat and treated with anti-reflective coatings eliminating additional muzzle side signature due to reflective glare. No need for costly glare elimination filters that reduce the effective light transmission and further dim the target area. The projected reticle pattern is only visible to the operator. The EXPS3's unique switch allows the operator to instantly drop the holographic reticle brightness to the NV mode of operation. The operator has the ability to toggle back and forth between the NV mode and the normal day/night operation within fractions of a second. The EXPS3 has 10 distinct Night Vision settings to provide maximum flexibility to the operator. Typically 3 to 4 brightness settings are not enough to support a host of constantly changing conditions including manufacturing variances in the sensitivities of the image intensifier tubes, varying ambient environments, and varying light gathering sensitivities of the human eye across users. The EXPS3 still maintains the 20 normal brightness settings for normal day/night operations.

The HWS uses state-of-the-art digital electronics design. Twenty brightness levels (plus 10 additional NV settings) ensure proper brightness control in either low light or very bright sunlight. The HWS employs a true Heads-Up Display that eliminates blind spots, constricted vision, or the tunnel vision associated with tube sights. The typical configuration is with both the monocular night vision system and the HWS mounted in tandem on the weapon's receiver. Operators can also co-witness the holographic reticle with head/helmet mounted monocular night vision image intensifier systems, even on a partial cheek-weld on the weapon's stock. This allows the operator added flexibility and greater versatility when deploying with night vision systems in the ever changing battlefield environments.
*This Holographic Weapon Sight must be exported from the United States in accordance with Export Administration Regulations ECCN 0A987. Diversion contrary to U.S. law is prohibited. In accordance with U.S. law (Title 15 CFR part 746 and Supplement No. 1 to Part 774; and Title 31 CFR) resale/re-export or transfer of Holographic Weapon Sight Models 552, 551, 512, 511, 4X magnifier and 3X magnifier to certain designated countries is prohibited without prior written consent of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Holographic Weapon Sight Models 553, 557 and 555 are controlled under U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and may not be exported without proper authorization by the U.S. Department of State.
In holography, all the information required to reconstruct the reticle image is recorded everywhere in the Heads-Up display window. If the window is obstructed by mud, snow, rain, etc., the HWS remains fully operational, with point of aim/impact being maintained. Even in such extreme cases where the laminated window is shattered, the HWS is fully functional! As long as the operator can see through any portion of the window, the entire reticle pattern is visible on target...the operator can still engage with confidence.
